Soil degradation is a silent crisis affecting 1.7 billion people globally. In Sub-Saharan Africa, it reduces crop yields by an average of 8.2%. It is a critical risk to food security and rural livelihoods.
In this paper, we take a look at the challenge of soil degradation across sub-Saharan Africa, the causes, restoration techniques and policy pointers to address the situation.
